Dynamic, adaptable and ultra-reliable connectivity is mission-critical for tomorrow's connected transportation ecosystem. Vehicles will communicate with other vehicles, pedestrians, roadside infrastructure or a cloud-based back end. While vehicle-generated data is increasing exponentially, not all data should be treated equally and strategically managing this data requires a multi-channel architecture. Using a 5G distributed multi-access edge compute (MEC) architecture enables car makers and fleet managers to control data transport costs, improve service availability and security, and ensure that the high-bandwidth and low-latency requirements of different connected vehicle applications are met.
OEMs are looking to take control of network and service management by defining policies for handling each category of data, and then letting the network report performance back to them dynamically. The convergence of public and private 5G networks plus the use of multi-access technologies will pave the way for a new era of connectivity visibility and control.
Speaker: Matt Price | VP of Engineering
